Development_Sunyang shop_02

Since the basic shape had been done, i have been work on the details and materials to make this building looks more real.

As a big part of this building, the walls are very important, so i started with them. i did some researches about new walls and old walls which are very dirty and with cracks.

Because Sunyang shop is a very big and famous shop in that city at that time, then it could not be very dirty, but i don't want to make it too clean neither, because sometimes a little bit dirty could make object more interesting and realistic.

I very like the model in the picture below, because the details of the textures are not make people feel boring. Opponent, they make this building looks like has very rich details even the model is simple, also the textures of the ground and the walls can make people feel 'weight'.

i took the picture above as my main reference of the walls. i studied it and find the main colour is still white but not too white and the dirty parts normally at the bottom and a little bit at the top, that is because bottom parts are close to the ground and some people like to kick the wall with their shoes and the reason of top parts easy get dirty is the effect of water to the wall.

The important priority order of the walls is the bottoms, the tops an then the middles, because the bottoms are the most dirty parts and they show more details and then the tops, the middle parts are the cleanest parts compare to the other parts. Based on the important priority order, when i did this texture, firstly i gave the walls a base colour - white, the i add some dirty marks to the bottom parts, then add less dirty marks to the top parts, finally, add very less dirty marks to the middle parts.

Corbel bracket (Dougong)

Corbel brackets (Dougong) are parts of Mr Zhao Taicheng's House and they are some of the most import parts, because they suggest the owner of that building was an high officer. That is because in Song Dynasty, only high officers can use corbel brackets on their houses or shops. Sunyang shop which this blog mentioned before is very famous and luxury, but it still cannot have corbel brackets, because the owner of that shop was not a high officer. Corbel brackets are the most important signs to separate Mr Zhao Taicheng's House and the other houses and shops.

Add details_01_Sunyang shop

After finish the blocking of Sunyang shop, i started to add the details of that shop, mainly define the positions of windows, doors and pillars.

I made some rough textures for the roofs, doors, floors, pillars and those textures give the Sunyang shop a rough looking.

So far, this model does not looks like Chinese building very much and it does not looks bustling neither, so that's what i need to develop after.

Next step: add more details and give those buildings some basic colours to make them look more like Chinese buildings. Also, i need to do more researches about what materials those buildings made of.

Model blocking_Sunyang shop

Original painting

3D model blocking

There are lots of shops and houses in the masterpiece - 'River of Wisdom'. I start with Sunyang shop because it is the biggest and most bustling shop in that masterpiece. Above is a 3D blocking of that building, used to give myself an idea about the relationship of the different buildings. The difficult thing is defining the boundaries of different buildings, because the masterpiece does not show the boundaries very clearly due to lots of reasons.

I did some research about this shop and find several different versions of it. They are not 100 percent same with the original painting, but they still can give me some ideas. When i did this blocking, i compared the different versions and the original painting and study how the different buildings connect to each other.

Below are the different versions that i find.
